Thuy Thi Nguyen is currently Interim General Counsel for the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.
Nguyen has served as General Counsel at Peralta Community College District since 2003. She also held the roles of Acting Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, District-wide Strategic Planning Manager and legislative liaison at Peralta. In addition, she was Interim President and Chief Executive Officer of the California Community College League of California.
Nguyen has served as a member of the California State Bar’s Council on Access and Fairness and helped design and implement the 2+2+3 Community Colleges Pathway to Law School initiative. Nguyen was also instrumental in spearheading a Spanish-language court interpreter program at Laney College.
Nguyen was a recipient of the 2011 Trailblazer Award from the Vietnamese-American Bar Association of Northern California. In 2007, she was named one of eighteen “Best Lawyers Under 40” in the country by the National Asian American Bar Association. She has taught education law at California State University, East Bay.
Nguyen earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at Yale University and a law degree at UCLA School of Law in 2000. She was a member of the inaugural class of the Public Interest Law and Policy Program at UCLA. In 1999, she was selected as a Paul Daisy Soros for New Americans Fellow.
